Anyone about my age or over will have read that title and followed with a badly sung ‘Fame’.
Tis, of course, a line from the song ‘Fame’ by Irene Cara.
From the 1983 film of the same name.
Here’s a linky for anyone that doesn’t remember it – www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS9FvIHDlWE

We’ve mentioned before the ‘why board’ we have up at RISE.
With all out ninjas’ names and their ‘whys’.
The deep routed reason they’re doing what they’re doing.
Stuff that’s deeper than ‘losing weight’ and ‘getting fit’.
Because they’re just means to an end.
No one really cares how much they weigh or how fit they are.
It’s what that enables them to do, how it makes them feel, etc.
We’re just taught to express it as weight and fitness.
For many of our ninjas, their ‘why’ is related to mortality / longevity / death.
Looking at the board now I can see “Good life to the end”.
“Because old age scares me”.
“To enjoy my old age”.
“Ready for 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s”
And so on.
Personally, death absolutely petrifies me.
Always has done, since a young age.
Being non-religious, the idea that all this will end one day and that I’ll be either eaten by worms or burnt (not decided yet) makes my blood run cold.
And that the same will happen to my kids is even worse.
But I, like lots of our ninjas, use this to drive and motivate me.
It’s much more powerful than where the dial ends up on some scales.
Knowing that the lifestyle I’ve chosen maximises the chance that the kids and I will have long, healthy lives makes the choices much easier.
I know one cake won’t kill me.
But at the same time I know that by not eating cake (which I use a catch all term for any such foodage that is bad for you) I am, hopefully, extending my life.
So, if you find the scales demotivating more than motivating (as most do).
Then try looking a bit deeper.
Ask yourself ‘why?’.
Over and over.
Until you get to the bottom of it.
And find what you really want.
And what will keep you going.
Much love,
Jon ‘I really would love to be able to fly’ Hall and Matt ‘Leg warmers’ Nicholson
