Those of you that have me as a Facebook friend may have noticed that one of my goals for this year is to make 40+ new meals / recipes.
One I did a month or so back was a variation on an apple crumble.
I chose that as my mum has bought round a bucket full of apples for me.
From the trees where my Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law, nephew and niece live.
I remember us planting those trees nearly 25 years ago.
They were only saplings.
Took many years before they provided any fruit.
Now, if anything, they provide too much.
Half those apples ended up going off in our basement (sorry mum).
Takes time to get any plant to the point where it does what we want doesn’t it?
From seed through to providing fruit or being ready for picking takes months to years.
A lot of water and sunlight is needed in that time.
Imagine if we gave up after a few weeks because that seed wasn’t returning any apples.
Madness.
And it’s the same with the work we might do to get in better shape.
Results can often come more slowly than we’d like.
Especially if we’re only concentrating on the ‘final’ goal.
There’s months or years of ‘getting closer’ before than particular plant ‘bears fruit’.
Each and every workout or better food choice is the equivalent of watering the seeds.
Of that bit more sunlight they receive.
It’s all taking us in the right direction (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you want to get going back in that direction).
Each ‘watering’ in itself does relatively little.
But they all add up.
We’re getting to months / years down the line either way.
And we can either have done what needs to be done to ‘bear that fruit’.
Or we can have stopped along the way and not get it.
