I mentioned in the blogs the other week that I was going to run the Wilmslow Half Marathon two weeks ago yesterday.

If you missed it, I’ve never been much of a runner (fat kid, ya da ya) and have just set it as a challenge to do one in under two hours.

Unfortunately it was cancelled due to the snow.

So I decided to just go and run the course the next day.

Like you do.

Foolishly, I missed a couple of turns so ended up having to do about 15 miles.

I’ll tell you what the time was when I hit 13.1 in a mo.

Overall, it was hard.

Real hard.

All by myself, out on the country lanes.

honest about exercise

The voices start.

“You could just stop for a little rest”

“Let your legs recover for a bit then keep going”

“You could pause the timer on the MapMyRun app and carry on”

“You’ll have still run 13.1 miles in under two hours”

“Just with a couple of pauses”

“You can still post the screen shot on Facebook”

“No one would know”

No one would know.

My post that Monday wouldn’t have shown any pauses.

You don’t have any proof I didn’t stop.

Hell, I could’ve just manually entered a time for the pre-loaded ‘Wilmslow Half Marathon’ route.

No one would know.

Being Honest About Exercise

I would know.

That’s what kept me going.

I knew it was within me.

I was still on for it.

But only if I didn’t stop.

I would know.

I hit 13.1 miles at 1:58.35.

85 seconds to spare.

No one actually knows if that’s true.

I know.

Because, ultimately, in life, the only one we really answer to is ourself.

The only one who really knows everything that’s happened?

The only one who know what could or couldn’t have been done?

That face we see in the mirror every morning. You have to be honest about exercise to yourself if no one else.

Genuinely can’t do some exercise in a day?

That’s fine, don’t feel bad about it.

Chose not to?

That’s also cool.

Everyone’s prerogative.

Have no control over what or how much you eat?

Again, no need to stress.

Just choose to have something?

Go for it.

No one else will know exactly what happened.

But you will.

Could you have done some sort of exercise?

Home workout, stretch, a walk?

5+ minutes out of the 1,440 in a day?

Could you have chosen to eat differently or just a little less?

Chose not to, sure.

But if you could, you know.

Much love,

Jon ‘Partridge’ Hall and Matt ‘Abba’ Nicholson

P.S. 2 points for those middle names, with the relevance 🙂
