Over the last few weeks I’ve noticed a resurfacing of a particular type of social media post.

For the first few weeks of lockdown things kept popping up along the lines of “If you don’t use this opportunity to get in shape and learn a new skill, you’ve wasted it”.

And they are back now.

Letting you know that if that didn’t happen, you’ve “wasted that chance”.

The funny thing is though……………

These posts are nearly always written by people with relatively simple lives.

Newly qualified twenty something year old FitPros who live with their mum.

People who were on furlow and suddenly were overloaded with time and money (for many that 20% reduction was immediately negated by savings on commuting and, well, just not being able to go out and spend).

Now there’s nothing wrong with being such people and I appreciate those situations bring there own challenges.

But for many lockdown was hard.

Real hard.

People dying (my two older sons’ step Dad lost five family members).

Working from home.

Or maybe working as normal (or more).

Perhaps home schooling as well.

General concern around what was happening.

The assorted challenges of doing everything from home and starring at those same four walls for weeks on end.

We get it.

Some had more time and / or money than ever to get in shape.

Some less.

But, ultimately, whatever the case, it’s our choice what we do with both.

Who would we (or anyone else) be to tell anyone that they’ve wasted either.

It’s yours to do with what you please.

And, either way, it (well, that bit of it anyway) is in the past now.

Can’t change it either way.

But, what we can change is the present.

And the future.

If we choose to, we can start to change things now.

No past decision ever has to influence a present or future decision.

Unless we choose for it to.

We can eat better today.

Right now.

Not like a monk.

Not “perfect” (whatever that means) all of the time.

But we can start making more of the choices that will take us in the direction we want to go in.

And less of those that take us the opposite way.

We can do some exercise.

An online or in person session if you’re a ninja (pop to the Sessions tab or page now and get one booked before you forget).

Something else in the meantime and get booked in for our monthly find our more meeting if you’re not –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.

Ultimately lockdown was only ‘wasted’ if you think it was.

You know your circumstances better than anyone else.

If you just about survived it and that was hard work, that’s awesome.

If you got in amazing shape and learned the trombone, that’s fantastic too.

Or anything in-between.

Much love,

Jon ‘Did very little of the singing practice I’d fully intended to do’ Hall
