I’m going to start this with one of these “If I had a pound for everytime……..” things that I sometimes use.

I am 40 in a few months after all.

I’ll be throwing in “when I was a lad” next.

This time it’s for everytime someone said something like;

“Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it” or

“I’ll do whatever it takes”.

I’d have, I dunno, quite a few pounds.

You get the idea.

I’ve heard it a lot.

Thing is………..

It’s not true.

And nor should it be.

If we were willing to “do whatever it takes”……….

We’d have probably done it by now.

Not being willing to do the work is absolutely fine.

Every single one of us has work we are unwilling to do.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

If I said to get in shape you had to knit for twelve hours and drown a puppy in the canal every day, would you do it?

Of course not.

——- You’d, hopefully, also report me to the police – – – – – – – –

It’s fine to be unwilling to do things.

And others.

But…………

There is, perhaps, a few considerations.

1. Is it as much work as we’re telling ourselves?

It’s easy to think we don’t have “time for it”.

When “it” is two hours in the gym five days a week and cooking every meal from scratch and eating stuff we don’t really like all the time.

When we can get in better shape by a few tactical swaps to our food and monitoring portion shape.

And three 45 minute workouts per week (most weeks).

2. Does not being willing to do ‘all’ of the work mean there’s not a ‘some’ work that’s still worth doing?

Whatever we’re not willing to do, there is something between that and nothing that is still worthwhile.

Some amount of work that will take us in the right direction that is OK by us (very much what we do – enough to go in the right direction, but not so much we don’t do it – – > myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

So, it’s OK to not be willing to ‘do whatever it takes’.

We all are, every day, in different ways.

Just let’s not kid ourselves about what actually can be done, is worthwhile and is within what we are willing to do?
