Who listens to podcasts?

A lot of people nowadays, it seems.

There are people that make huge amounts of money from how many people listen to their podcast.

We actually first started doing podcasts just shy of a decade ago.

I’ll be honest, it’s been a very on and off thing over the years – there’s always other stuff that’s more pressing and gets a higher return on investment for our efforts.

The first really popular podcast was The Ricky Gervais Show in about 2005.

I listened to it at the time.

One line from it randomly popped into my head the other day.

I’ve tried googling it to be exact but can’t find it and will have to quote from memory as best as possible.

Someone had been talking about giving something “110%”.

“Impossible” Ricky replied.

“The most you can give, by definition, is 100%. And, realistically, I’m probably not going to be doing that either. You’ll be lucky if you get 60 or 70% out of me”.

A quick Google suggest Ricky is worth $140 million.

His 60 or 70% (at best) has worked out fine for him.

As it will for all of us.

It’s a regular thing that I speak to people who are interested in what we do at RISE………

And they say “I just need to wait for XYZ to finish so I can give it 100%”.

You know – project at work, school holidays, family challenges, etc.

And I get that.

I really do.

It’s a perfectly natural human feeling that we should give things 100%.

But it’s not going to happen.

Ever.

And being OK with that is where the results actually come.

If we’re 100% or 0%…………..

Then we’ll be 0%.

I’ve exercised regularly and eaten well for 20 years and don’t think I’ve ever ended a week where I think I couldn’t have done any more.

I could have always eaten “better” (by some definition).

I could’ve always done more exercise and / or worked harder.

It’s never, ever, ever been 100%.

And it never will be.

Being happy with knowingly sub-optimal…………..

40 or 60% when that’s all we have the time and energy for………….

Is where, from my experience, the results always add up (apply now for a place on our ‘Great in 8’ Programme, which is designed to get you off to the best possible start with some easy wins and early progress –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .

Much love,

Jon ‘metre hurdles’ Hall

P.S. Tomorrow I’m going to cover the biggest ‘waiting till I can give 100%’ that we hear this time every year.
