Imagine being in a restaurant.
Be awesome right now, wouldn’t it?
You’ve got in your head you really want a specific meal.
Your favourite.
A nice steak, perhaps.
A lovely pasta dish.
A fully stacked burger.
You’ve not had it in ages and you’ve really looking forward to it.
You order.
The waiter points out they don’t serve that meal.
“I’ll have a plate of dog muck then” you respond in a huff.
An odd response, of course.
It would make more sense to have the meal that is available that we’d like the most.
The ‘best’ choice under the circumstances.
Instead of jumping from one end of the spectrum all the way to the other because we can’t have that “perfect” option.
That was never actually an option under the circumstances.
But we do similar with our eating in other ways.
We can’t be bothered to cook a complicated recipe full of fresh ingredients from scratch.
So we grab a Dominoes on the way home.
We don’t feel like cooking.
And have a bowl of cereal followed by a tub of Ben and Jerry’s infront of the TV.
We were planning on not drinking.
Have a glass and think we may as well finish the bottle.
Just because we can’t (or didn’t want to) do the ‘best’ option………….
Doesn’t mean we need to swing wildly to the other end of the spectrum.
We can, of course.
If we want to.
We’re all big boys and girls here.
But, it’s worth questioning that thought process.
Just like you wouldn’t order dog much when they didn’t have steak…………….
Not going for the theoretically perfect option, which was never actually going to happen………….
Doesn’t mean there isn’t a ‘next best thing’ that we can do………….
And that’ll still take us in the direction we want to go.
Much love,
Jon ‘Really fancy a burger now’ Hall
