I mentioned in yesterday’s blog “a few things that we probably all say about ourselves from time to time that aren’t actually the hard and fast facts that we perceive them to be that we’d probably benefit from questioning”.
And I promised to go through them over the next five days.
Because, from my experience (20 years in the industry, 10 years doing this, two times Top 6 at the National Fitness Awards, top in the UK on FreeIndex and top in Cheshire on Facebook, Google and more)…………
What changes when people go on to lasting results where they’ve struggled to get that before……….
Is rarely a removal of the challenges they face in their lives……….
But a change in the way they see those challenges and their beliefs around what that has to mean.
Because those challenges will always be there.
They’ll change somewhat over the years, sure.
Be more or less full on in different ways at different times.
But they’ll always be there.
The stars will never align.
Life never gets particularly easy.
We’ll always be “busy”.
At least for the vast majority of our lives.
Waiting till we’re not busy will mean waiting a very long time for most.
And I get that we might be too busy to do some versions of what we’d like to do.
We might have too much on to make five workouts down at the club.
But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t have made two and done a home workout or two.
Or just do the two, ignoring the voice that tells us “That’s not worth doing. I’ll wait till next week” because that makes absolutely zero sense.
It doesn’t mean we couldn’t do a five minute bodyweight workout, have a stretch or go for a run.
It doesn’t mean we couldn’t meditate.
There’s an old phrase that “You should sit in mediation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour”.
Now I don’t except that to happen for most but that doesn’t mean 5 tactical minutes wouldn’t pay massive dividends in how we handle the other 1,435 minutes in the day.
And being busy definitely doesn’t mean we couldn’t make the “better” food choices that take zero (or less) additional time.
There is no version of reality where getting a salad, fruit pot and zero calorie drink meal deal takes more time than the sandwich, crisps / chocolate and sugary drink meal deal.
Smaller portion sizes of the same choice can only take less time.
Putting different things in our trolley / click and collect order is not ever affected by how busy we are.
Making a bit more of one meal and saving it for another can only save time.
“Being busy” might stop us getting in the Olympics or stepping on a bodybuilding stage.
But, it only needs to stop us getting slimmer, fitter and healthier if we choose it to.
Much love,
Jon ‘Bee’ Hall
P.S. Check www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you’ve realised you’ll never not be busy and have come to accept that “knowingly sub-optimal” and “done” will always beat “theoretically perfect” and “not done”.
