I’m on a bit of a crusade at the moment .

To help people realise but the main reason that they’re giving for not achieving their goals isn’t entirely true.

Or, at least, it doesn’t need to be causing the level of derailment that it is.

That reason, of course, is “I’m too busy”.

AKA “a lack of time”.

Now I know you’re busy.

I know because we’re all busy

And I know because people tell me on a regular basis.

After 20 years in the fitness industry though, I’ve yet to see much of a correlation between the busyness levels of those that get amazing results with us………

And those that don’t.

Ultimately though I do get that we all have a finite amount of time and lots of demands on it.

But I also get that, as with all finite resources, making better use of them is most likely to come if we accurately track where those resources are going.

If we’re wanting to make better use of our money then accurately tracking where it’s going would make sense.

Tracking our food is an invaluable way to add a bit of accountability to what we’re doing and to help us become aware of some tactical swaps.

And tracking our time is, from my experience, by far the best way of enabling us to make changes as to how we use that resource.

I can guarantee, that if you think you’re busy, you would benefit massively from taking a log every 15 minutes of how you’re using your time.

It’s eye-opening.

I’ve never known anyone to do it who hasn’t been taken aback by how much that time they spend doing certain things.

And how much time they spend doing stuff that isn’t all that important.

The cold hard data of that tracking enables us to make some adjustments as to how we assign that finite resource of time.

Some things we might stop doing completely.

Some things we might just do less frequently.

Some things we might batch and do less frequently for longer individual periods for less time used overall.

Sometimes we might look to put similar tasks together more to minimise that setup time that is sometimes needed for what we do.

Sometimes we might look to get someone else to do some of the things we’re doing.

Sometimes we might look to systemize or automate certain things to some degree.

But I can guarantee you that if you were to track how you use your time every 15 minutes for the next week……..

You would gain insights as to how you can use it more efficiently going forward in order to free up time and make yourself less busy.

I can guarantee that the time spent tracking your use of time………

Will be paid back, many times over.

But I can also guarantee………..

That the vast majority of people reading this……..

Won’t do this.

Because they’re, ironically, “too busy”.

Much love,

Jon ‘and field’ Hall
