I’ve done a few blogs and videos recently that have touched on the subject of anxiety and depression.
Both things that appear to be much more prevalent than at any point in history.
Both things that a higher percentage of people consider that they ‘suffer’ with than they used to.
And, of course, we get that both are things that have a potential medical element.
But we also get that how we perceive things can play a big part in the way we respond to them.
I’ve mentioned before that anxiety isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
That it could be viewed as the “emotion of growth”.
A life where we never feel anxious about anything would likely lead to a life we weren’t happy with.
Avoiding anxiety short term can create greater anxiety longer term.
Could we see it, in some cases, as a bit like getting out of breath?
If we always avoid getting out of breath through exercise……..
We end up more out of breath in everyday life.
Avoiding expending energy in exercise leads to less energy outside of exercising.
When we avoid short term discomfort we often create greater long term discomfort.
Tactical use of getting out of breath and using energy increases our capacity for both.
And maybe tactical anxiety can to?
Accepting that it’s ok to feel anxious.
It’s normal.
It shows we care about how things go.
We could call it Goldilocks Anxiety.
Not too much, not too little.
We don’t want to be paralyzed by it and it negatively affect our health.
But that doesn’t mean none of it is the answer either.
Next time you’re feeling anxious, could you consider it as perfectly normal?
And indicator that you care?
And as like getting out of breath?
Much love,

P.S. We know there’s more to anxiety than just this. But that doesn’t mean that this can’t help. Apply now at www.myrise.co.uk/apply or just get cracking at www.myrise.co.uk/join to try something that many have said over the years helps with their levels of anxious thoughts.
