Every now and again I’ll see some version of a meme online where it says that “being fat is a choice”.
And I get what the poster is trying to do.
Show some ‘tough love’ to help people make a realisation that will benefit them.
I’m not sure how beneficial it is though.
If we’ve chosen to be fat then surely we could just choose not to be fat?
This coming from someone who’s still carrying more body fat than they’d like.
Maybe a version that would work better is ‘being fat is an accumulation of choices’.
Thousands of thousands of relatively small and innocuous choices.
– Those extra bits of food beyond what we really needed.
– Those more calorie dense options when the other option was just as easy.
– Those missed workouts that we could have made.
In and of themselves, those decisions don’t seem to matter.
But remembering it’s that accumulation of decisions that adds up can be powerful.
Many of those individual decisions are actually relatively easy to make.
And remembering that it is those that will add up to our final position…….
And that being fat or not is not one very difficult to make decision but lots of relatively easy ones……..
Can help us make enough of those better decisions (it’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply for proven help and support in doing that, surprisingly easily)
Much love,
