It’s a regular conversation I have with people where they express that they feel they “just need to be more consistent”.
Kinda sounds obvious, doesn’t it?
But is it true?
I’d have you considered you don’t actually need to be more consistent.
And I’d further suggest that it’s a desire for consistency that often derails us.
The research shows that the following two patterns of eating will produce the exact same weight loss results or else being;
Monday – 1,200 calories
Tuesday – 1,200 calories
Wednesday – 1,400 calories
Thursday – 1,500 calories
Friday – 2,500 calories
Saturday – 3,000 calories
Sunday – 1,100 calories
Monday – 1,700 calories
Tuesday – 1,700 calories
Wednesday – 1,700 calories
Thursday – 1,700 calories
Friday – 1,700 calories
Saturday – 1,7000 calories
Sunday – 1,700 calories
As will the following workout distributions;
Week 1 – 3 workouts
Week 2 – 3 workouts
Week 3 – 3 workouts
Week 4 – 3 workouts
Week 1 – 2 workout
Week 2 – 4 workouts
Week 3 – 2 workouts
Week 4 – 4 workouts
Other number distribution patterns are available, of course.
We don’t actually need consistency.
We just need to do enough over time to move is in the direction we want.
And the danger of thinking we do need consistency is that, when we can’t do that consistent version, we’re tempted to “leave it”.
Overeat one day and it’s tempting to think “I’ll leave it till next week”.
Can’t make 3 workouts one week and it’s tempting to do none.
That enterally stopping and “starting again”.
That hasn’t got us there.
And, I’d wager that it wasn’t what got us where we needed to be in most areas of life.
Even the things we consider to be most successful at will have had peaks and troughs.
That slowing down and speeding up over time.
But just general average movement in the right direction over weeks, months and years.
So, if it’s consistency you think you need, maybe that’s worth questioning.
Maybe you don’t.
And maybe thinking you do is keeping you stuck (you’ll get ‘unstuck’ real quick by jumping in here —> www.myrise.co.uk/apply)
