I talked yesterday about the time that might go into improving skills.
The hours of practice we can invest to improve at anything.
Cooking or trying different meals.
Exercise.
Meditation.
Anything.
It’s all just reps .
We can train ourselves better at anything.
Not always easy, of course.
Really, really hard at times.
But true nonetheless.
What we’ve often done, without realising it, is trained ourselves good at the opposite.
Put thousands of reps in and become really ‘good’ in other ways.
Created a routine of eating a certain way and spending time a certain way that we find incredibly easy to do now.
Not necessarily any more or less physical effort, we’re just so experienced at doing it.
We train our mind with every rep it takes (every move it makes).
The more we allow it to focus on the future, the better it becomes at that.
The easier we find anxiety.
The more we allow it to lament on the ‘less good’ parts of the past and present…………
The better we get at that.
And what that can bring.
Frustration, dissatisfaction, depression.
The more reps we get at pulling ourselves back to the moment we are in……….
Focus………
Concentration……….
Mindfulness……….
The present………..
The only thing that really exists…………
What’s in front of us this very second…………
The better we get at that too.
The more reps we get at allowing our peer group and media to influence our thoughts and feelings………..
The better we get at that.
The more reps we get at being clear on our mission, our vision and our values…………
And concentrating on filling our lives with inspiring challenges that fit them……….
The better we get at that.
When our head ‘isn’t where we’d like it to be’………..
Is it worth considering that we just haven’t put the reps in?
Much love,
