I had an interesting conversation the other today.
And if experience has taught me anything, it’s that if one person expresses something, there’ll be many others thinking the same.
I was talking to someone about what we generally recommended for people to lose weight and get in better shape.
And, if you’ve read any of these blogs, you’ll know the basics of what I talk about are;
– Get in a calorie deficit for weight loss
– Generally try and eat more fresh, nutritious food and less processed stuff
– Maybe look at alcohol, caffeine and water intake
– Possibly get more sleep
– Do some sort of progressive exercise that you enjoy (or, at least, find tolerable) as frequently as you feel you can (here. if you haven’t found that already –> www.myris.co.uk/apply)
“Isn’t that a bit generic?” they responded.
And, whilst I see where they’re coming from, I’d actually suggest it’s the exact opposite.
Most people, when they come to us, have generally been given ‘one size fits all’ approaches.
They’ll have been recommended a specific diet which is the same for everyone on it.
Or given “the best exercise for XYZ” with no consideration taken to their exercise history, current physical position and personal preferences.
In short, they’ll have been given the same as everyone else.
Generic.
What I’ve always aimed to do is;
– Help people understand the fundamental “boxes that need to be ticked” to go in the direction that they desire
– Help them develop a plan that works for them and they’re happy to do that will lead them in that direction
“Knowingly suboptimal and done” always beats “theoretically better and not done”.
Much love,
