Back when we were cavemen, one of the things that kept us alive………

Was our ability to notice potential danger.

And to react to it quickly.

Our ability to pick out the negatives around us allowed us to survive and pass on our genetic material.

Nowadays those negatives are less likely to cause us to die…………

But our brain still notices them, doesn’t it?

We end the day with a long list of things that didn’t go quite perfectly.

The things that “went wrong” at work.

That jerk that cut us up in traffic.

Those comments on Facebook.

The frustrating interactions with colleagues, friends and / or family members.

But we instantly forgot the stuff that went fine, didn’t we?

The stuff that was probably the vast majority of the day.

We wrote it off as ‘expected behaviour’.

Done.

Move on to the next thing.

That 5% that didn’t go quite perfectly occupying much more of our mind than the 95% that went well.

Of course, it’s never going to occupy the same.

We need to learn from what doesn’t go so well to make improvements in the future.

But could we redress that balance somewhat?

Build confidence and momentum from the success we normally instantly forget?

Put the less good stuff in context?

Forget about some of it instantly?

Remember that where our focus goes, our intentions and results follow?

That what we appreciate appreciates?

That we get more of the good stuff by recognising it and those people in our lives that are involved in it happening?

Noticing the “bad” in life has it’s place.

But it comes pretty naturally – we’ll get more than enough of that without even trying.

Putting some effort into recognising the good will give us much more benefit.

Much love,

Jon ‘Kings of Pain’ Hall

P.S. If you’d like to come somewhere that will help redress than balance, we have just the place. You’ll find it via www.myrise.co.uk/apply
