💡💡💡

It’s the mid to late 1980s.

It’s not.

It’s 2021.

I just do this sometimes.

‘Setting the scene’ and all that.

Young Jon has several things he particularly enjoys.

The A-Team.

My Go-Kart.

My tree house (lucky Jon lives on a private estate as his Dad is the estate famer).

Scalextric.

Winding my sister up.

Transformers.

Star Wars.

For the latter two I have multiple (well, two) avenues of enjoyment.

The TV programmes / films.

And the toys.

I had loads of Transformers and Star Wars toys.

Loved them.

Have you ever noticed that the Autobots (the “good” Transformers not those naughty Decepticon types) looks a bit like Darth Vader’s mask when turned through 180 degrees?

Interesting?

Yes.

Particularly relevant to this blog?

Not really.

I just know you’re more likely to read this (and do something with it) if I start out with something a bit more interesting and segue into some sort of lesson or parallel than if just give you a load of info).

Because Autobots sounds a little bit like Autonomy (work with me).

“The ability to make your own decisions without being controlled by anyone else”.

When we choose to do something………..

When we want to do it………….

We’re way more likely to do it………

Than if we feel that we “have to” do it.

“Ought to”.

“Need to”.

“Should”.

Whenever we use those last few words, we’re just saying we don’t want to do it.

“I should lose some weight”.

“I need to do more exercise”.

“I should cut down on my snacking”.

All unlikely to happen.

When we want to do something……..

Because of how it fits into what’s important to us………..

What we value……….

How we want to live our life…………

The kind of person we see ourselves being and becoming………..

It’s pretty likely to happen.

It can be the same things we used to struggle with.

We just change the frame we choose to view them through.

From something we’re feeling somewhat coerced into doing…………

To something we’re choosing to do for the benefits.

It’s our choice.

One we’re happy to make.

And see ourselves, on average, continuing to make.

——————————————–

So that’s the first CBA alternative.

The second is just a quickie tomorrow.

But, as I said on Monday, if all you remember from this is those three words;

Competence

Belonging

Autonomy

And you, perhaps, occasionally try and see how they fit in with something you’ve got the other CBA about…………

Then you could be about to create the conditions that motivation grows more easily within 🙂

Much love,
