Part of the problem we face in the modern world when trying to get fitter, healthier, slimmer, etc………..
Is ‘hangovers’ from our evolution.
Things that served us well at the time.
But aren’t as helpful in the modern world.
We’re kind of “programmed” to like foods that give us the most calories for the least effort.
Historically, the more you were able to get sufficient energy without wasting too much of it, the more likely you were to pass on your genes.
Tricking dozens of buffalo to plummet to their deaths over a cliff made more sense than chasing the tens of thousands of chickens (or similar) that would be needed for the same return.
Lower hanging, larger fruits were preferable to higher, smaller ones.
And so on.
We only went higher, smaller, etc where we really had to.
So, we get why, calorie dense foods are attractive to us.
If cake, biscuits, chocolate covered sugar bars, etc had been around a million years ago, we’d have been all over them.
It’s not the only reason, of course.
But it is part of it.
Permanent solutions to temporary problems.
And, as always, the better an understanding we have of what’s going on in our brains………..
The more we are able to work on and to change that.
