I’ve spoken to a few people recently who were considering joining us who expressed a similar thing.
Over the COVID lockdowns was the last time they’d attempted to get into an exercise regime.
They had a lot more time, so were hoping to use that as an opportunity to create that regular habit.
“I did it for 6 weeks” one of them said “And was hoping I’d catch the bug, but didn’t”.
Kind of the opposite of COVID.
And I get that.
It’s a thing that people regularly express to me.
That they’re hoping that they’ll catch the bug.
Or that it’ll become something that they love.
And, like many things, that’s one of those ‘nice to haves’.
It would be great if we loved it.
But if we’re waiting for that to happen, we might be waiting a very long time.
I’ve exercised regularly for 20 years now.
I’m not sure I’d say I love it.
I’m more than happy to do it for the benefits it brings
And I do it in a way that I find as enjoyable as possible.
But if it wasn’t for the benefits it brought me immediately and in the longer term, there is zero chance I would do it.
I don’t do it because I love it.
I do it for the benefits.
I’m sure some people do love it
And that’s great.
But it’s not going to be the case for everyone.
From my experience, it’s not going to be the case for most.
But that doesn’t have to stop us doing it.
Thinking that we have to love it to do it…….
Is the surest way to keep stuck (it’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you’d like to get unstuck now rather than “waiting till January” and having even more to do!).
Much love,
