In Wednesday’s blog I mentioned that I’ve been gradually gaining weight over the last few years.

And I outlined my plan to get it back down to a level that I’m happy with.

An argument could be made that it was a badly timed blog.

Because I’d been invited to Day One of the England versus Sri Lanka cricket test match at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

A couple of mates had arranged hospitality, which meant free food and drink all day.

So, at the point that the blog went out, I was just starting a day of heavy overconsumption.

A day that many might interpret as “having already failed”.

Meaning they need to “start again next week”.

But, if you remember, my plan was an average 1,000 calorie a day deficit.

7,000 per week.

It made no mention of being in deficit every single day.

It made no mention of not drinking alcohol.

Or “cutting out” carbs, socialising or anything else.

It was as a plan with flexibility.

Plans for perfection have their place.

But, from my experience, they rarely (if ever) work with regards to our nutrition.

They just set this up for (perceived) failure.

Relatively low calories on Thursday, reasonably deficit yesterday (we were out with friends last night) and an easy next few days from a food perspective will mean I do Wednesday to Tuesday in at least a 7,000 calorie deficit.

No beating myself up because I ate a lot on Wednesday.

No avoiding socialising.

No being miserable.

Just sensible adjustments across the vast majority of the 168 hours in the week so that the shorter periods of overconsumption were averaged out.

It doesn’t need to be much more complicated than that (P.S. When you’re ready for simple over complicated and progress now rather than deferred, you’ll find that at www.myrise.co.uk/apply)

Much love,

Jon ‘Understand cricket a lot better now’ Hall
