For a little while my middle son has been having trouble charging his phone.
Part of the cable came out and was stuck in the charging port.
Which meant he could only use that cable or a wireless power bank.
Not the end of the world, but a bit of a faff.
So I took it into the phone shop recently to get it sorted.
And my phone clearly had a bit of fluff in the charging port as it was occasionally deactivating.
The guy in the shop fixed them both.
In about a minute.
For £35.
Which, as the blog title says, works out about two grand an hour.
Part of me was a bit annoyed.
Mainly with myself for not clarifying the charge beforehand.
But I mainly was happy just to get both phones sorted.
Because that was the relevant bit.
If it had taken him 20 minutes to sort and he charged the same, that actually that would have been worse for me – 19 extra minutes of waiting.
Because, ultimately, we don’t pay for the amount of time it takes to do that particular thing.
We pay for the total cost of running a specific operation divided by the number of customers, transactions, etc.
We pay for some ones experience and knowledge that enables a problem to be solved.
We pay, ultimately, for that solving of a problem.
And never is that more relevant than in the health and fitness industry.
There are countless different options out there.
But the research sadly shows that the vast majority of them don’t deliver the results that people desire.
The overwhelming majority of gym members gain weight and lose fitness over time.
And the average gym owner or Fitness Professional will blame the member.
Pointing out that “If they just did what they were told, they would get results”.
And, sure, this is true.
But if something is failing to help people get the results that they desire in the majority of occasions……
Then maybe questions should be asked.
I’d be lying if I said that every single person that joins us achieves all the results they desire………
But a pretty high proportion do.
And I’d say everyone gets better results than they were before.
On the face of it we do the same kind of stuff that’s available elsewhere.
Exercise.
Nutritional advice.
Help with habits, lifestyle, etc.
But, like that guy In the phone shop, we know exactly what tool to use and how to use it to get the problem fixed as quickly as possible.
