In the 10th of these ’23 things I’ve learned from 23 years in Fitness Industry’ blogs, I talked about “going with the flow”.

And how that is fine………….

Until it’s taking us somewhere we don’t want to go.

To swim against the tide that’s taking is where we don’t want to go requires planning.

Setting out a specific intent and putting steps in place to make it happen.

A lack of planning essentially just being planning on default behaviours.

Default actions.

Default choices.

Default results.

Which, again, is fine.

Until it isn’t.

I get the resistance to planning.

I used to have it a lot more.

I still have it to a degree.

Planning sets the parameters of perceived failure.

It’s brave to put our head above the parapet and make it clear what we intend to do.

We’re exposing ourselves to the possibility that it might not happen.

To feeling that we’ve failed.

But it’s always powerful to remember that good planning makes it more likely that we’ll succeed, not less.

Not planning, just hides that ‘failure’.

It increases the ‘failure’ whilst protecting our ego by covering it up.

Ultimately, we don’t need to plan.

But let’s always remember that a lack of non-default planning is just planning on default results.

Much love,
