I had a little idea the other day.
Many times over the years people have told me that “It’s easy for you”.
When you work in the Fitness Industry, they feel that it’s easier for us to do the things that need to be done to be in the shape that we want.
And maybe it is in some ways.
I could save a few minutes a day by not having to drive to somewhere especially to exercise.
Although I usually train elsewhere just for a change of scenery.
And I get that helping others do this for a living will give me an advantage in terms of how I might implement those same things.
Ultimately though the exact same stuff, requiring the same amount of time and effort needs to be done for someone to achieve the same results whether they work in the Fitness Industry or not.
But my idea was to see if there was any correlation between the reuslts that other people are getting………
And how easy they felt they had it.
So I sent out the following questionnaire;
How “easy” would you say it is logistically (time, commitments, etc) for YOU to get in better shape on a scale of 1-10 (1 is literally impossible, 10 is nothing in the way)?
How happy are you with your body / health / fitness on a scale of 1-10 (1 is couldn’t be less happy, 10 is couldn’t be happier)?
And I number crunched the responses.
Now I appreciate it’s a very subjective scale and that the numbers on the two scales aren’t necessarily directly comparable.
But I think it’s fair to say that it might show a trend.
I got 24 responses.
No where near enough for hard and fast scientific data but maybe enough for some food for thought?
Out of those 24, 62.5% gave themselves a lower score for results than ‘easiness’.
29.17% gave themselves the same score.
And only one person, 8.33%, put their results higher than their ‘easiness’.
The biggest variences were all in that first group.
Some people giving themselves a considerably worse score for results than for ‘easiness’.
Now I’m not daft (at least not in this way).
I know it’s not actually “easy”.
But maybe sometimes it’s worth questioning if it as hard as we tell ourselves?
And if how hard it is or isn’t matters as much as we might think?
Particularly questioning when we end up not doing the stuff that requires no actual time or effort because we can’t do the stuff that does.
Or when we essentially don’t do anything because we don’t think we can do what we feel we’re “supposed to”.
Much love,
Jon ‘Like a Friday morning’ Hall
P.S. Whatever your current situation. However “easy” you might have it or not. I promise (literally guarantee) that you’ll get better results (and be glad you tried it) if you jump in at www.myrise.co.uk/apply.
