I was vaguely listening to the radio the other day whilst driving.
I don’t really watch or listen to the news but I must have been changing stations and a little stat jumped out at me.
They were reporting about how hard people were finding it now to register with a new NHS dentist.
With people having to travel up to 100 miles in some cases.
It referenced how few dentists are currently taking on NHS patients.
With “only one in ten dentists in England and Scotland” having places.
“And it’s even lower in Wales with only one in five”.
Which, I’m sure we all noticed is actually twice as many.
A disappointing misunderstanding for a professional newsreader, sure.
But an understandable train of thought.
And, if we’re being honest with ourselves, I’m sure we’ve all misunderstood something at times.
And maybe then gone on to have that misunderstanding adversely shape our decisions and the results that we achieve.
We hear about “good” and “bad” metabolisms and put down our struggles to losing weight to being down to that.
Missing that the vast majority of our energy needs is dictated by our size and activity levels.
And the differences outside of that are in the magnitude of give or take no more than 80 calories a day.
And, that, whatever our Basal Metabolic Rate, we would still lose weight when in a calorie deficit.
Or we’ll hear about people successfully losing weight with a method such as Intermittent Fasting, food combining, macronutrient removal (“cutting out carbs”), etc………
And miss that, whilst there are other considerations, these only work as a method for losing weight if they create an average calorie deficit.
Or we’ll hear about the gruelling 2-hour daily workouts that got someone in world class shape……..
And forget that we will probably get in considerably better shape than we are now with considerably less time needed (we’re renowned for helping get people in much better shape with less time and effort than they expected. Check www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you like the sound of that).
Sure, that newsreaders misunderstanding is particularly poor.
But it’s always worth checking what misunderstandings that we may have.
Much love,
