I’m sure we all know people that are untidy.
I’ve got a couple of them in my house.
Maybe you’re untidy?
Maybe you used to be but not so much anymore.
But, I’m sure we would all agree that when someone goes from being untidy………
To being tidy………
What has changed is not the reasons they gave for being untidy before……….
It’s their beliefs surrounding that.
If we blamed our untidiness before on “being busy”……..
I’m pretty sure we didn’t stop being busy when we got tidier.
We just, perhaps, came to the realisation that sometimes it’s less effort overall to be tidy.
That it can be easier to put things back in the right place in the first place rather than creating a mess that needs tidying.
It can be less effort to put things somewhere that you know they will be at next time you need them rather than creating a job of “finding” them.
And that it can be easier to keep on top of things rather than letting them get worse and having to pull them back.
If we continue to believe that being tidy is hard work, time consuming or something we’re not bothered about………
Then, at most, we just occasionally tidy up only for it to return to being untidy.
And our body is much the same
For as long as we tell ourselves that being in shape is hard, time-consuming and / or something we’re “not that bothered about”………
We will, at most, get in better shape only to slide back to where we were.
If we decide that it’s easier to maintain our current physique, weight and health than it is to let it slide back and have to change it again……..
If we just make the things that we have to do to look after ourselves part of our life……..
If we do the relatively easy to do things (portion control, tactical swaps) rather than telling ourselves we need wholesale, hard to keep up, changes………..
Then, like keeping our house tidy, it ends up being far easier than we once thought it would be.
