For the last year our main car has been an electric one we’ve got through my wife’s work scheme.
We largely love it.
It’s a great car and 99% of the time it just charges at home overnight for a fraction of the cost of petrol or diesel.
It’s the odd occasion when we’ve had really long or unexpected trips that it’s proved a bit of a faff.
The issue being the charge to usage time differential.
A full charge taking 45 minutes at the very least.
And then only a few hours of continuous driving to drain.
Whereas a petrol or diesel car can go twice as far and only takes 5 minutes to refuel.
A similar ratio to our eating.
We can eat a few hundred calories in only a few minutes.
Potentially a good few thousand over an evening.
It takes a lot longer to use it up.
So, could we take a lesson from the electric car?
‘Refuel’ more slowly.
Have half a portion and wait 10 minutes to see if you still want the rest.
Plate up a smaller amount and leave the rest out of sight rather than on the table.
Or just get one out rather than the whole packet.
We can go back in 10 minutes if we’re still hungry.
But, if you’re anything like me, if it’s in front of you, it will get finished.
Or have a smaller snack or whatever and see how you’re feel in a bit.
Maybe push a meal timing back a bit so there’s less gap until the next one (or bed).
Ultimately, just give our body time to realise that it’s had enough.
Whacking the ‘fuel’ in as fast as possible will invariably lead to overfueling.
Much love,
Jon ‘For the first time in my life someone said “Nice car” to me this morning’ Hall
