It’s a regular conversation that I have with people where they expressed to me that they feel they should be “more consistent”.
And, when we explore that, what they actually mean is something akin to “more perfect”.
They usually mean thay they should do three or more workouts every single week, and eat like a monk.
And that’s not really what consistency is.
Consistency is about doing the same.
One work out per month is consistent.
Eating in the massive surplus and gaining weight every month is consistent.
What we actually need is………
To stop stopping.
To become ok with slowing down and speeding up as circumstance dictates.
To be ok with some weeks being three or four Sessions and the next week being none if thats what our other commitments cause to happen.
To accept that losing three pounds then gaining one, if repeated, will still get us to the weight loss that we desire.
To challenge the thoughts that we have where, after a period of over consumption, we should “write off” the next amount of time and “start again” at some point in the future……..
And know that the average and total of the week or month is what matters.
To realise that pretty much everyone eats and drinks more than they need at the weekend……..
And that those that achieve results balance that out with moderate under consumption in the week.
What we need is not to do the same day and day out week in week out.
We don’t need to be consistent.
