Have you ever not done something because you were worried about how it might pan out?

That you might “fail”?

I’m fairly confident every single one of us said “yes” to that.

But have you considered that we fail at things every single day of our lives?

I don’t know if I’ve ever had a day go by where I’ve achieved everything I possibly might like to have done.

I don’t think my head’s ever hit the pillow with a completed to-do list.

We’re probably more ok with failing than we like to tell ourselves.

It’s often that what we fear………..

Is not failure………..

It’s ‘being seen to fail’.

If the thing that we we’re concerned about doing…………

We knew, for sure, that no one would find out about if it didn’t go well………..

Would we be more likely to give it a go ?

Not in every case, I’m sure.

But in many cases, I reckon we would.

It’s our friends or colleagues or family members seeing us not achieve the thing that we’ve said we were going to do that is the issue.

Not the not doing the thing that we’d like to do, or not.

And I get all that

I feel the same.

We all do.

It’s a brave choice to define a goal and proclaim it to others.

To essentially set the parameters of perceived failure.

To lift our head above the parapet.

To create a situation in which we may be perceived to have failed.

If that thing doesn’t happen or not, it happens or not irrespective of if we’ve set those parameters.

It’s just that others will know.

The key word there, of course, is “perceived”.

Perceived failure.

I’m pretty confident that, by setting a specific goal and telling other,s we will achieve a higher level of performance than if we didn’t set any goal at all.

There’s a strong argument to be made that by setting the goal we will definitely fail less.

Or we will fail higher.

And that ultimately is the important thing.

The results we produce are, I’m sure you’ll agree, way more important than how we, or others, may feel about our performance versus a somewhat cursory target.

It’s a brave choice.

It really is.

Setting goals and telling others about it is brave.

For the benefits it brings in us getting more of what we want…………..

Let’s just be brave.

Let’s set plans and work towards making them happen.

Much love,

P.S. I’m more than aware that people’s concern with clicking this link and getting started on my programme isn’t that they don’t trust that I (and the team) will deliver what I say I will…………

It’s that people are worried that they won’t keep it up.

I get that.

That’s why we’ve got systems in place to support people and hold them accountable – not just renting access to stuff to do with what you please (or not).

Nearly everyone who ever joined us was somewhat concerned they might not keep it up, as they hadn’t in the past.

And our walls of verified successes should show how good we are at changing that for them —> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
