I talked yesterday about some of the labels that we might give ourselves.
And the realisation that we can change these labels to ones that serve as better.
Because, ultimately, that’s all they are.
Labels.
And their attachment to us is far weaker than we might realise.
We feel that they are attached with super glue……..
When it’s Velcro at most.
We can rip them off and change them anytime we like.
Now we might struggle to keep it on if we feel the label doesn’t fit us at all.
But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a label that does serves us better.
The label probably needs to, at the very least, show signs of becoming true.
“I’m amazing at this” may just slip off and “I’m rubbish at this” quickly take its place.
But “I’ll get better at this with practise” might just stay around (many of our member join feeling that they’re “no good at exercise” but soon shift round to “getting better” and on to “better than I ever thought I would be”. It’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you’d like that to be you).
Labels that describe progression and improvement will help us more……..
Than those that involve being at one end of the spectrum or the other.
Much love,
Jon ‘Bostik’ Hall
