Whilst we’re on the subject of classic 80s film Back to the Future (yesterday’s blog), if you’ve seen it (or you can remember what I wrote yesterday), you’ll probably remember how fast the Delorean time machine has to go before it can travel through time.
88 miles per hour innit?
Nothing happens at 50mph.
Or 72mph.
It has to hit the 88 before anything occurs (from a time travel perspective at least).
In everyday life it’s kinda the opposite.
Those that spend their days constantly rushing round at 88mph often don’t make the progress they’d like.
Busy, but not productive.
Doing things, but not necessarily THE things that will drive them forward.
Rattling through ‘to do lists’ but not doing (enough of) the stuff that will really make a difference in their lives.
Being pulled into the relatively easy, somewhat comfortable, tasks that are the same week in, week out.
And that doesn’t mean those things don’t need to get done, of course.
————- Although there probably are some things we’re busy doing that we could just stop ———–
But we can often benefit from slowing down a little.
Looking at what’s the most important stuff that will move us forward.
Often less urgent, but more important.
Look at what we could stop doing, do less of, batch do or get someone else to do.
Prioritising.
Spending hours cooking fresh, natural meals from scratch is cool.
But if approaching healthy eating that way means it doesn’t happen (or other stuff doesn’t) could we just eat in a quicker way but in calorie deficit / maintenance?
If we enjoy lengthy workouts and fit them in fine, that’s awesome.
But we could get enough to elicit a positive change in the body in a few short sessions.
If we love watching TV for relaxation, that’s amazing.
But could we watch a little less and get a bit more sleep?
Could we plan and schedule better?
If we consider ourselves to be always busy…………
But don’t have a particularly tight schedule we could show…………
Then we don’t really know where our time is going.
And are just left with how it all makes us ‘feel’.
Ultimately, we don’t need to go at 88mph to get what we want in life.
And often, when we are, that’s part of the reason things aren’t happening as we’d like.
Much love,
