I mentioned in yesterday’s blog that I keep contacting people.
I was talking about members in that case.
Because there’s no such thing as accountability without follow up.
If people tell me that they want accountability (and they often do) and I stop contacting them the first (or even the two hundredth) time they don’t get back to me, then I wouldn’t be doing what I said I would.
Someone else not doing what they told me they would doesn’t mean that I should not do what I told them I would.
I also contact non members who’ve asked me to contact them about what we do.
Not forever.
But I will contact them a number of times after they’ve filled a form in requesting that I contact them.
I’m doing what they’ve asked me to do.
And, for every person who’s ever eventually responded with some version of “Can’t you get the message? I’m not interested”, I have had many, many times more respond with something more like “Sorry I’ve not got back to you sooner, I’ve been really busy. Thanks for chasing me up”.
I recently had a fellow FitPro send me an unsolicited message.
Offering me feedback.
Which was fine – anyone can tell me whatever they like.
I’m a big boy.
Some of what he was saying was provably incorrect (me owning a trademark meaning that only I can operate as RISE within the fitness industry in Macclesfield isn’t an opinion or to be debated – it’s legal fact).
Some other points were kinda valid but not really in the context of the situation.
But one particular line jumped out at me.
He told me that he’d “had clients come to me because they were put off by your aggressive selling tactics”.
Ignoring the fact that I can’t imagine anyone ever going “I found Jon’s selling tactics to be aggressive so I need to go to REDACTED” (especially when, after 21 years in the Fitness Industry and 11 of running RISE in Macclesfield, I’d never heard of him)……..
I would dispute that anything I do is “aggressive selling tactics”.
Someone asks me to contact them, I will.
Someone asks me to stop contacting them, I’ll also do that.
At no point is there any ‘salesly stuff’.
No tricks.
No pressure.
No false scarcity and ‘value stacking’.
I’ll just let people know how the programme works and, if we both feel that we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll work together.
But I tell you what I won’t do.
Give up on people.
They can give up on me.
They can give up on themselves.
But I won’t give up on them.
I see it as my job……..
My moral and ethical duty……….
To keep doing what someone has asked me to do until they tell me otherwise (it’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you’ve realised this is, in part at least, what you need and not just vague promises of “accountability”).
Other people are welcome to stop contacting people when they don’t hear back “because I don’t want to annoy them”……….
But if over two decades of doing this and helping thousands change their lives, when it’s not happened elsewhere, has taught me anything………
It’s that that’s not for me!
Much love,
Jon ‘Passive’ Hall
