Over the last quarter of a century, since I passed my driving test, I’ve had numerous cars.
For the first 15 years or so it was a new car every time I drove the last one into the ground.
The car I currently drive is the one I’ve had for by far the longest.
And that’s because we had it from new through my wife’s work lease scheme and then bought it at the end of that scheme.
So it’s probably now the age where I normally would have brought a car in the past.
I’ve never been one for spending all that much on cars.
As long as they’re good enough, that’s good enough for me.
But I’ve always spent a fair amount on my house.
Stretching myself financially to live in what I consider to be a nicer house is worth it for me.
Stretching myself for a nicer car, isn’t.
No right or wrong.
Just my personal preference.
And we all do the same.
Happy to spend money in some areas of life.
Don’t spend so much in others.
“scrimp and save where it doesn’t matter to you and then spend frivolously on the things you absolutely love” is a phrase I’ve seen a few times over the years.
And we can apply that to multiple areas of our lives.
If we’re not willing to let go of food and booze heavy social events……..
And experience will have shown us if that’s the case………
Then where could we scrimp and save elsewhere to make that work?
Less in the week?
Not bothering with certain meals?
Some tactical swaps elsewhere for things that were just as happy to have, but that contribute less calories?
The same with the time and money we can put into changes to our lifestyle.
We may never love exercising as much as some other things……….
But we can love the benefits it brings.
Spending a few hours a week and a few pounds a day less on something that, whilst probably easy and relaxing, doesn’t really benefit us……….
To put that bit of time and money into improving our mood and energy levels and creating a body we like the look and feel of and that serves as well………
Is a great saving and investment combo.
Scrimping and saving on the mental energy that can go into seeing what others are up to on social media and other similar things that don’t really benefit us…….. .
And putting that into making some positive changes to our life……….
Is another amazing investment (check www.myrise.co.uk/apply for a programme that will help you get all these amazing returns on investment more easily than you imagine!).
Ultimately, we all have finite budgets of all the resources available to us.
Where can we scrimp and save on what we don’t really value……….
So that we can spend frivolously on the things we absolutely love?
Much love,

P.S. I did put ‘Mater’ as my middle name but realised that could be easily misconstrued!
