I was listening to the radio on the school run the other day.
And, has it has for numerous blog ideas over the years, one particular lyric jumped out at me.
It was ‘Up Where We Belong’ by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes.
I’ll be honest, the initials in the blog title were just to make it marginally more likely you’d open this).
Open loop for the win!
Anyway, the lyric was;
“The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb a step every day”
True story that.
It’s easy to think that the challenge we face in achieving our goals are unique to us.
And that what needs to be done is too much.
And while our specific situation is unique………….
Everyone has similar combinations of challenges.
Not to dismiss or belittle them.
But to empower us to realise that this is normal.
Everyone’s road is long.
Everyone has mountains in their way.
And all we can do is ‘climb that step every day’.
Little, seemingly inconsequential decisions and actions that all add up over time.
The odd step back is fine.
Most of our successes get there by maintaining “two steps forward, one step back” for long enough.
And avoiding “one step forward, two steps back”.
But………..
The real kicker in that song?
“Love lift us up where we belong”
From our experience, the big change people who’ve struggle before make after joining us………..
Is moving from a mindset of restriction, dieting, going without, hard work, effort, will power, motivation, etc………..
To something like “treating my body with the love, care and respect it deserves”.
“Giving a sh!t about what I put in my mouth because of how it makes me feel and look”.
—— Check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if that sounds like a better way to see it and you’d like to do that whilst having fun with like minded people in an intimidation free atmosphere ——–
No matter how much we try, we can rarely ‘hate’ ourselves into change.
Love will lift us up where we belong 🙂
Much love,
