I was listening to the radio on the school run a few week ago.

And a song by Bon Jovi came on.

I’ve heard the song many many times.

But this time this section jumped out at me.

“Me and some guys from school
We had a band and we tried real hard
But Jimmy quit and Joey got married
I should’ve known we’d never get far”

‘Summer of 69’ of course.

“Jimmy didn’t try all that hard” was my thought.

He quit.

And Joey presumably also quit when he got married.

Didn’t try as hard as your mate Jon (not me) did, did you lads?

And that’s fine.

How much effort we put into anything is entirely our choice

And I would never dream to tell anyone otherwise.

But, sometimes, it’s worth questioning how hard we’re actually trying.

I’m all for working smarter, not just harder

Looking at your easiest wins.

Your highest return-on-investment activities.

Taking the brakes off rather than just ramming down on the accelerator.

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t also just try.

If we’re constantly looking for the easier way to do it,

But not actually trying as hard as we could.

We’re going to get less far than if we just tried a bit harder.

Life isn’t supposed to be easy and comfortable.

If it was, it would be.

Sure let’s work smarter (the smartest thing you could do right now would be to click this link and apply for a place on our programme –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) ………..

But, maybe, sometimes let’s just question how hard we’re actually working?

Much love,

Jon ‘Bon Jovi’ Hall
