Have you ever achieved a goal and, let’s be honest, been somewhat disappointed?
I know I have.
We sent out to lose a certain amount of weight…….
Lose the weight………
And, whilst proud of ourselves, there’s a little feeling of “Is that it?”
You decide to run a marathon (other distances are available)………
Do it……..
And in the days after, feel a bit empty.
We set a target at work and make it happen……..
And are surprised when we don’t feel the ecstatic jubilation that we expected.
We aim to be able to lift a certain weight or do a certain exercise……..
Get to that point and, whilst initially buzzing, that soon becomes our new base level where we are disappointed with anything less.
Ultimately, we’re still the same person and life, whilst probably better, isn’t as drastically different as we thought it might be when we got to that point.
Achieving goals can be disappointing.
Which is why it’s so important to, as much as we can, fall in love with the process.
If we force ourselves to do something that we hate doing……..
Then the end result just doesn’t feel worthwhile…….
We’re unlikely to continue on to further success.
There’s no happy ending to unhappy journey.
You’ll never create a life you love doing sh!t you hate.
If what we did along the way was ok and part of a life that we’re happy living (very much what we’re all about. Find out via www.myrise.co.uk/apply how you can do that this Christmas Season and not get to January further behind and regretting it)……..
If, to some degree, it enthuses you…….
Energizes you……..
“Juices” you…….
Then you’re infinitley more likely to keep going.
Much love,
Jon ‘Datappointment’ Hall
