Everyday for the last 20 plus years I’ll have had some variation of a conversation with someone about how they can accelerate their results / progress.

How they can be losing weight, getting fitter or any other change that they’d like to make.

And whilst I’m a big fan of working smarter……..

High return on investment, big bang for your buck adjustments rather than lots of little things that don’t add up too much………

Sometimes at least part of the answer is just “working harder”.

Which isn’t always an easy thing to hear.

Because it’s tempting to think that we’re working as hard as we can.

But it’s super powerful to remember that none of us are.

Ever.

Myself included.

And working “as hard as we can” is neither realistic nor needed.

But resetting our calibration of where we are can be powerful.

Sometimes people ask me “Why am I not getting as strong (or toned) as I thought I would from these workouts?”

And I’ll explain that we need to “up the intensity”.

Harder versions, more reps, essentially ‘harder work’.

“I’m working as hard as I can in Sessions” is a common reply.

To which I’ll explained that “No one ever works at 100%”.

“Ridiculous as it sounds, if I had a gun to your head or the life of someone you cared about was on the line, you would do more wouldn’t you?”

And you can see the penny drop.

If we could have done more then what we were doing wasn’t 100%.

And that’s absolutely fine.

It doesn’t need to be.

But if that calibration reset makes us realise that we’re actually working at, say 75%……….

Then maybe we could work at 82%.

Narrowing that gap between where we were and 100% will increase the results we get.

Not completely closing the gap.

Because that’s impossible.

Just recognising that there is a gap for everyone and that we can narrow it for improved results.

Much love,

Jon ‘Boat’ Hall
