Anyone who was listening to Radio 1 in the 90s with know this song.

“Only happy when it rains”.

By Garbage.

They had quite a few big songs out around that time.

Even did a Bond Theme.

It came on the radio the other day.

First time I’ve heard it in a while.

Deferring our happiness until it rains (literally or figuratively) seems an odd choice, doesn’t it?

But I’m sure we’re all guilty, on occasion, of deferring happiness when we don’t really need to.

“I’ll be happy when………

I’ve finished my education……..

Got a job……..

Met someone……….

Got married………

Bought a house……….

Got my career where I want it to be………

Had kids………

The kids are a bit older……..

The kids have left home………

We’ve sorted the divorce……….

Etc.

All important milestones, sure.

Things to (mostly) aim for and work towards.

But, chances are, if we approach life with an “I’ll he happy when…….” mindset……

Then we’ll never be happy.

The goalposts will keep moving.

Happiness isn’t always easy to get, sure.

But deferring it will pretty much guarantee we never get there.

Much love,

Jon ‘And I know it’ Hall

P.S. Out of all the people that have done our ‘Great in 8’ Programme over the last decade, I’m not sure any of them didn’t feel, at least somewhat, happier having done it. Check www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you’d to feel happier (with a money back guarantee)
