Over the last two decades I’ve seen various phrases in the Fitness Industry come and go.

The type that are often written up on big commercial gym walls or shared online.

There’s a relatively new one (or variations of it) that I’m seeing more and more of recently.

“You’re only one workout away from feeling great”

And I get what it’s trying to do.

But is it true?

Not from my experience.

I generally feel pretty good most of the time, I must admit.

Not always though.

And I usually do feel better after a work out.

But do I always feel “great” after one?

Nope.

And, I’d wager that, for people who perhaps spend most of their time feeling “less than good”……..

They’re even less likely to feel “great” after a single workout.

So much of what is said about exercise I find actually puts a lot of people off.

People who haven’t exercised as much as they might ideally like to, try it and find that……..

– They didn’t “absolutely love it” (like they thought that they’re supposed to)

– They didn’t “feel amazing” afterwards

– They weren’t “high on natural endorphins”

– They didn’t feel like they “couldn’t wait to come back again”

And it feeds into that underlying belief that they might have that “This is not for me”.

“I’m not that kind of person”.

People sometimes say to me “I wish I loved exercise like you do”.

And whilst I don’t mind doing it, to say I “love it” would be a massive exaggeration

It’s largely a means to it end.

Done for the benefits it brings about.

If it didn’t make me feel better (both short and longer term) and contribute to a body that I like the look and feel of, there’s no chance I would do it for fun.

There are things that I would do (and do do) purely for the enjoyment of the experience that have the opposite to those longer-term benefits.

Drinking vodka and eating cheesecake, for example.

If those were things that led to improved health, fitness, and physique, then I’d be a world class athlete in a few months, no probs.

So, if you don’t “absolutely love” exercise or feel amazing after it, aren’t “high on natural endorphins” and don’t feel like you “can’t wait to come back again”………

Then that’s cool.

You can still choose to do it though.

For the benefits that it brings.

I can’t promise that you ever will feel any of those things (although you might).

But, I can promise that, with regular exercise and improved eating………

Then you will feel noticeably better over time.

And your body will change to one that you like the look and feel off more.

And that it’s more than worth it.
