In yesterday’s blog, I talked about how, irrespective of the speed of others, the indicator of the speed limit on a stretch of road is what’s displayed inside a red circle. Other a signage around speed is advisory. Not adhering to the number in the red circle will have a direct result. Speed awareness courses, points, fines, etc. Not adhering to other considerations can, of course, have implications and affect our results. But the correlation is less direct. Much like our calorie intake. We have a limit. It might not be displayed clearly in a red circle, but it’s there. An amount which, when we go beyond it, there is a direct result. Weight gain. And, like the further above a speed limit we go, the ensuing result increases (removal of course as an option, greater fines, more points, bans, etc)………. The more above the calorie limit we go, the greater the weight gain. Sure, there are a considerations around our eating (macros, nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc)………. But, like other factors of our driving and course, points and fines, they don’t have that direct correlation to weight gain. But, I’ve got some good news for you. Our body works more like an average speed limit camera. We don’t need to keep to the equivalent of a steady 50mph all the time. We can spend periods of ragging it around at “80 miles an hour” and having the time of our lives…….. As long as we spend twice as long at “35” (other numbers are available). Going over “50” doesn’t equate to “failure”. We can average out. We can pre-empt upcoming periods of ‘going faster’ by ‘going slower’ in the run up. And we can challenge any silly thoughts about ‘going too fast’ meaning we have “failed” and should continue to ‘go too fast’. And, instead, just slow down to bring that average under our ‘limit’.

Much love,
