This Saturday night, the wife and I are having a joint birthday party.
She was 40 a couple of weeks ago and I’m 40 in a couple of weeks.
We’re looking forward to it – should be a good do 🙂
We sent invites out on either a printed card in the post or an image of said card online.
On it, it asked people to RSVP by texting my wife’s number.
As it stands, we’ve had 110 people let us know they’re coming.
About 30 can’t make it.
And still a few TBCs who I guess aren’t coming 🙁
Out of the 140 replies so far, have a guess how many texted as requested on the invitation?
——- I’m aware I gave it away in the blog title ——-
Yup – three!
It was one when I first wrote this, but had a couple more since.
All RISE members or staff funnily enough (go Lee, Bernie and Faye).
Now obviously some people replied on behalf of themselves and others.
But, still.
Everyone else told us in person or PM’d or WhatsApp’d their reply.
Which is fine.
Doesn’t really matter.
But I thought it was quite interesting.
A very specific instruction / request.
And nearly everyone decides to do a different version.
Which is something we can all see in all areas of our lives.
I’m sure you’ve encountered many times at work where you’ve asked someone to do something and they come back having done their own version of it.
Which wasn’t really what you wanted.
We recommend or suggest a way of eating or exercising that will get someone towards their goals…………
And they change it just enough so that it, perhaps, doesn’t!
People very rarely deliberately do something different for the sake of it.
They usually think they’re doing the right thing.
Having framed what they’ve heard in their own way.
But after nearly 18 years in this industry (in about five weeks)………….
There are some things we’ve seen work 100% of the time.
And they work in 100% of controlled studies.
To different degrees and at different speeds in different people, sure.
But they always work.
Chance are if someone feels they’re doing what we’re recommending and it isn’t working…………
They’re not doing what we’re recommending.
It’s there own moderately (but sufficiently) different version.
And that’s cool.
Knowing that is the first step in finding what that is.
And working out a way to change that.
If you’re already a member and aren’t sure where that gap is, talk to us and we’ll figure it out together.
If you’re not already a member, well, what are you waiting for? The meeting is tomorrow night now! There’s not a single other thing you’re likely to do in February that’ll make a bigger difference to your life, I promise –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.
Much love,
Jon ‘1994’ Hall and Matt ‘1998’ Nicholson
P.S. Mega tricky middle names out there for those of you who aren’t big fans of South Korean TV programmes (me neither, but I am good at Googling!).
