During yesterday’s monthly Coaching Day at RISE, I had several really good conversations with people.

One particularly was about “plateauing”.

The member in question was disappointed with recent progress, felt she had been plateauing and wanted to make some changes to that.

We quickly came to the conclusion that, under the circumstances of some recent challenges she had been facing, plateauing was actually really good.

It was maintenance.

When she could have gone backwards considerably.

Like most often happens when things get tricky.

I get that forward progress is what we want.

And we definitely look to create that where we can.

And bigger, faster progress is always going to create more enthusiasm.

But here’s the ‘continuum of progress’ we could make.

Fast backwards – Slow backwards – Maintenance – Slow forward – Fast forwards

And being further to the right on that continuum than we could be under the circumstances is what really adds up.

Much love,

Jon ‘Required’ Hall
