A lot of times when I have conversations with people about their recent weight gain (or loss of fitness)………

It becomes clear that at least part of why that happened was not that they couldn’t have done anything in that time frame………

But that, because they couldn’t do “everything”……….

They essentially chose to do nothing.

Being “busy” may have meant they couldn’t do three workouts per week at a separate location……….

But probably didn’t mean they couldn’t have done one or two and / or some short ones at home?

They might not have been able to eat in a way that would drop them a couple of pounds that week……….

But did that mean they had to eat in a way that gained them a few pounds?

It’s very easy to think that, because we can’t do this theoretically perfect version we think we should be doing……….

That we “leave it” until we can.

We tell ourselves that “it’s not worth doing”.

And that we’ll “start again next week”.

There’s an old Chinese proverb that’s worth remembering in these situations;

“Be not afraid of going slowly, be afraid of standing still”

If over 24 years of doing this has taught me anything it’s that……….

Our success comes more from the accumulation of all the times where we went slowly (rather than stood still or went backwards)……….

Far more so than from the times we went quickly.

Much love,

Jon ‘I go before you always’ Hall
