I’m sometimes reluctant to use the term “sales” as I know it carries certain connotations.

Used car dealers ripping people off kind of things.

A lot of Fitness Professionals struggle with this side of running a business.

And I genuinely think it’s because they’re framing things wrong.

When it comes to personal training in Macclesfield, my goal is not to sell people something they don’t need.

I aim to help individuals improve how their body looks and feels, boost their energy levels, enhance their mood, and support their mental health, among many other benefits.

I’ll increase the likelihood of them living longer and enjoying a better life, and I will never feel guilty about that.

In exchange, I’ll be able to pay my bills and provide for my children.

Each individual step of the process that someone might take between having never heard of us to becoming a member is simply about me helping them.

Helping them become initially aware of who we are, what we do, and how we can potentially assist them.

If the above resonates, I guide them through finding out more.

If we discover we’re a good fit for each other, then I facilitate getting started and making changes smoothly to achieve results.

If we’re not quite the right fit at the moment, that’s fine—I’ve helped either one or both of us recognize that.

There’s no twisting of arms or trying to persuade someone to “give it a go”—if they’re not sufficiently motivated, neither of us will have a great experience.

During the find-out-more calls, I emphasize that the purpose is to ensure they leave with something suited to them and an actionable plan.

If that involves working with us, that’s fantastic.

However, if it doesn’t, and I can recommend an alternative, that’s perfectly acceptable too.

For instance, just on Friday, I spoke with someone over the phone, and realizing how far she lived from our facilities, I connected her with similar local options that would be a better fit for her.

She was profusely apologetic about ‘wasting my time,’ but I reminded her that the call was about helping her find the right fit, so the conversation was 100% successful.

I don’t find this general process nearly as stressful as many of my contemporaries seem to, largely due to how I frame it.

It’s about helping people, and if I support enough individuals in the right manner, then I can cover my expenses.

We can apply similar reframing to most challenges we encounter.

We can transform our thoughts on exercise from feelings of grinding, pain, inconvenience, and punishment for eating, to:

– Making ourselves feel better immediately and in the long term

– Achieving a body that we like the look and feel of

– Being the best version of ourselves for those we care about

– Carving out time for ourselves

– Treating our body with love, care, and respect

Changes to our eating habits can evolve from concepts of restriction, plainness, and hunger, to:

– Fueling ourselves in a way that promotes well-being.

– Achieving a body we like the look and feel of (and I like it just as it is)

– Treating our body with love, care, and respect (and I feel the same way)

– Ensuring appropriate portion sizes for our size and activity levels.

Reframing how we perceive and describe various aspects of our lives can significantly alter how challenging we find those tasks or may help us shift towards habits that not only feel better but also lead to our desired outcomes.
