Most Tuesday lunch times I go to a yoga class.

I’ll be just finishing up work ready to go to it as this blog comes out.

I’ve done yoga, on and off, for 20 years.

I find it helps with my various back problems.

There’s one position that involves being stood up with your legs crossed.

I have noticed a little something about how I get into that position versus what the instructor tells us to do.

She says “Put one leg behind the other”.

I instinctively put one leg in front of the other.

I end up in exactly the same position, of course.

But there’s something in my brain that interprets the instruction differently.

It’s takes conscious effort to do it as instructed.

Because the human brain is very good at trying to jump to an end result in our own way, without even realising it.

Countless times I’ve been showing a member something on our app or how to use MyFitnessPal and they’ll just start rapidly scrolling up and down.

Almost hoping they’ll kind of figure it out based on what they already know.

“It might work better to stop scrolling and read what it actually says” I may then say.

Or we’ll discuss and agree a plan to do going forward that will help them achieve their goals.

And when I see them next, I discover that they’ve done something vaguely similar, but that doesn’t actually tick the boxes of what needs to happen to make the progress that they want.

It’s human nature to hear how to do something and then go and do our own version.

And, if that gets the same results, that’s cool.

If it doesn’t, then it may be worth questioning.

And, if we think we’re doing what we’ve been told and it’s not working……..

Then it’s always worth getting clear with someone if we are actually doing that thing.

By asking someone like me(or joining an amazing programme like mine –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) 🙂

Much love,
