[rt_reading_time label=”Reading Time:” postfix=”minutes” postfix_singular=”minute”]
Check the above line.
You may have noticed that I started including that in the blogs a few months ago.
Letting you know how long it will take to read it.
Based on average reading speeds, it’s about 1 to 3 minutes.
Do you know why I did that?
To increase the chance that you’d read it.
If you know it’ll only take 60 to 180 seconds, I figure you’re more likely to have a look.
And, do you know what?
I was right.
Do You Read Long Blogs?
The stats show more opens, longer average time spent reading, etc.
I see these things on blogs I might happen across on the internet.
And, do you know what I do when I see numbers like 9 or 11 minutes?
At most I ‘save’ the link for a later look.
Read it then and there?
Rarely.
How many blogs that length do I read eventually?
Some.
But, I must admit, it puts me off, unless it’s something I’m really interested in.
Lazy, you might say.
But, I feel fairly confident in saying that many of you will be the same.
I reckon even this subject line will be enough to drop opens a little.
All the research shows that we, as a population, have the shortest attention span at any time in history.
We have more on, more hectic lives then ever.
And still the same 1,440 minutes a day to pack it in to.
What most FitPros do is just give you more and more stuff to add into that already busy day.
Lengthy workouts.
Complicated, time consuming meals.
Fine for them as most are 23 and live with their mum.
Fitting Fitness In
But, having four kids, a 44-mile round trip school run, a wife who works long hours and a busy business, I know how time-short we can be.
So the key is to find the best thing we can do with the time we have.
Don’t ‘write it off’ and go all the way in the opposite direction.
Is making more one evening and then having leftovers for breakfast the ‘perfect start to the day’?
Maybe not.
But it’s a damn sight better than cereal, toast and juice.
And does it take any more time?
Nope.
Does chucking a load of stuff in a wok or oven dish create something as nice looking at that ready meal or takeout?
I doubt it.
But that’s no biggie, surely?
And it’s going to get you better results.
You get the point.
We know you’re time pressured.
We know you don’t want tonnes of things that will take ages to do (that’s why we’ve made everything we do as quick and convenient as possible, including our orientation evening at RISE in Macclesfield, where you can come and take a look around and find out about fitting fitness in).
Neither do we.
But……….
There’s usually plenty we can do that takes the same amount of time or, at most, a little more, that will help us get what we want.
When we avoid ‘writing things off’ because they’re not perfect……….
And do the best we can with the time and whatever else we’ve got………
That’s when the results come with time 🙂
Much love,
Jon ’21 seconds’ Hall and Matt ‘Jump Street’ Nicholson
