I blogged the other week about our coach Faye.
And how, despite being nervous, she’d entered her first powerlifting comp.
Just doing it before she gave herself chance to talk herself out of it.
It was a week last Saturday at the club.
Faye posted this after;
“What a day!! First competition under the belt. Never experienced nerves like it but I’m so happy I’ve done it.”
That’s the thing with nerves.
We’re only ever nervous about things we care about.
If Faye hadn’t have cared how it had gone she wouldn’t have been as nervous.
Nerves are often an indicator that we’re going in the right direction.
That we’re stretching ourselves.
Pushing our boundaries.
Growing.
Sure, they don’t feel all that nice at the time.
But they’re nearly always worth it.
Rarely do we feel nervous about something, do it to the best of our ability then regret it after.
If we know we’ve done our best, we can still be proud.
Faye hit all her lifts and was very pleased with that as we were for her.
But if she’d have missed some, it wouldn’t have matter massively.
She would have still be happy with the fact that she’d done it.
That she’d levelled up.
If she’d have dropped out the night before, giving some other reason?
If she’d had not prepped sufficiently and not got any of her lifts?
Different story maybe.
But when you feel nervous.
And then give it a good go.
You can’t go wrong.
We grow and progress as people at the edge of our comfort zones.
Not over the line so it’s too much.
Not something nice and easy we can do with our eyes closed.
That sweet spot that makes us nervous, but that we can still achieve.
If you’re wanting some growth (slimmer, fitter, stronger, faster or healthier or something completely unrelated)………..
Then go find that sweet spot and go for it 🙂
