During one of the rainy days in the summer I watched Top Gun with the kids.

“The greatest film ever made” according to (somewhat deluded) RISE member Jamie.

There’s that odd scene where civilian contractor Charlie (played by Kelly McGillis) is brought in especially to talk to the Top Gun crew.

For a mammoth 90 seconds.

In which she explains that the MiG-28 is incapable of a “negative G pushover”.

Maverick (Tom Cruise) let’s her know her “data is inaccurate” as he was involved in an “inverted 4G dive” with the MiG.

“So, you’re the one” the scene concludes.

Letting us, the viewer, know that Maverick is the only one capable of such a thing.

Do you know how you could be “the one”?

If you didn’t lose weight when in a sustained, genuine calorie deficit.

You’d be the first person ever.

Every trustable study ever has shown that everyone loses weight when in a calorie deficit.

What their levels are to create a deficit will vary, sure.

Mainly down to body size and composition and activity levels.

With marginal differences at best outside of that.

But when a genuine deficit is created and, on average, maintained, everyone loses weight.

If you didn’t……….

You would be “the one”.

Knowing this is empowering (as is taking the next step to finding out more about what we do. That find out more meeting is tomorrow night now. As per Boris’ announcement last week, we’ve got six months of less to do and to spend our money on, so why not take this opportunity to sort that ‘lockdown body’ and come out of this whole thing better off, physically at least, than when we started –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

We stop being a victim of our “genes” or our “metabolism”.

And we realise, that if we’re not losing weight, we’re just not in a calorie deficit.

We’re just consuming more calories than we need.

And it becomes a different conversation.

One around figuring out what changes we can make and how.

Much love,

Jon ‘Ice’ Hall

P.S. That was actually my nickname in the first year of Uni and I still have a Hugh Stewart Hall (my Halls of Residence, not a cousin) top with it on.

When not helping people to transform their lives and bodies, Jon can usually be found either playing with his kids or taxi-ing them around. If you'd like to find out more about what we do at RISE then enter your details in the box to the right or bottom of this page or at myrise.co.uk - this is the same way every single one of the hundreds who've described this as "one of the best decisions I've ever made" took their first step.
