So, as I mentioned yesterday, last weekend, I was on a Stag Do in Lisbon.

Usually MO – alcohol (beers, Jäger Trains, ridiculous cocktails, etc), sun and general shenanigans.

Although it was relatively tame compare to a 40 strong ‘Wigan Boys’ Stag we saw which involved them all on the tables, swinging shirts round their heads, covered in beer, blood and jellyfish stings.

Singing ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’.

At 3pm.

BTW – Google Jäger Train if you haven’t seen them before (as I hadn’t).

Anyway – as there always is on Stags there were people from different areas of the Groom’s life.

Most of the boys there I was meeting for the first time.

And, as always happens in such scenarios, the conversation soon turns to what we do.

And, invariably, people start asking me for advice on how to get in better shape.

Like there’s some secret.

Sure there’s advanced stuff that we can do with people when it’s relevant.

But when people are struggling to implement the basics, that’s not needed.

The first 80% of getting in shape is simple as!

Eat (and drink) healthily 95%+ of the time.

Exercise effectively 3+ times a week.

That’s it.

That will get most people in pretty good shape.

Lack of knowledge isn’t the problem.

If you’re struggling to lose weight / get in better shape………

It isn’t because you don’t know what to do.

It’s the way you perceive these things that’s stopping you doing them.

Self limiting beliefs.

How your feel about healthy eating and exercise.

The ‘environment’ you’ve tried to do them in before.

Ones that you don’t like.

Intimidating gyms, depressing slimming clubs, boring diets, etc.

Rather than in a community of like minded people who support each other (like what we do – myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

It’s the allowing ourselves to be taken in by all the ‘fads’.

We all know that replacing real food with crappy shakes / juices / magic space dust isn’t the answer.

But it’s tempting to think the thing we haven’t tried yet is the answer.

So, this is a quick reminder of the basics.

Eat a balanced diet of real food the vast majority of the time.

Exercise regularly and effectively.

If you’re struggling with that, it’s not more new things you need.

It’s to work on the above limitations.

Much love,
