Remember the first curry you ever had?

No, me neither.

I tell you one way we probably would’ve remembered it though.

If it had been a vindaloo.

It would’ve probably been a pretty horrible experience.

And it may have been the last curry we ever had too.

Scarred for life and put off all curries.

“Curries aren’t for me” we might think.

Hopefully, in reality, we started with something a bit milder.

A korma perhaps.

And we may, if we so desire, work up to vindaloo.

Or stop at something between those two that gives us the desired benefit (tastes yum yum) but without too much downside (blows our head off).

Usually though, we do the opposite with exercise.

Often with the encouragement of a well meaning FitPro.

Not exercised in months, years or decades?

And we try and give it 100% on workout one.

Potentially with some sort of instructor, trainer or coach recommending that and more.

We don’t particularly enjoy it.

Feel awful for days after.

An it probably confirms our suspicion that “exercise isn’t our thing”.

We often say the main aim of a workout is “to leave the person wanting to do another one”.

Part of that is them feeling it was worthwhile and did something, sure.

But part is enjoying it (sufficiently, at least).

Part is feeling sufficient competence – that this is something they can do now AND improve at over time.

And part is the ‘after effects’ being within what they’re ok with.

And, generally, the standard FitPro (or self inflicted) beasting doesn’t tick any of those boxes.

At least not to start.

If you’re new to exercise or returning after while, start with a ‘korma’ (you can start to learn about our ‘menu’ here –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

Work through the different ‘spices’ as you see fit.

And remember, it’s fine to fancy a milder one than you were fine with last time.

As a good curry should leave you wanting another one at some point……….

If your workout doesn’t leave you wanting another one, something’s not quite right.

Much love,

Jon Hal’wa and Mat’hura ke pede’ Nicholson
