I’ve started playing a bit of Padel with some mates recently.

In case you haven’t heard of it (or have but don’t know what it is), Padel is “a racket sport of Mexican origin, typically played in doubles on an enclosed court slightly smaller than a doubles tennis court”.

Whilst arranging our second game I took part in the following WhatsApp message exchange in our group chat, which I’m going to use to draw a few ideas for blogs about.

Four actually!

Friend: “I feel like the padel will earn me the day out on the booze later”

Me: “It will with your ‘optimistic’ watch”

Friend: “Tight u”

Me: “Blame physics”

Friend: “Here, doing my best, u puttin me down… Supposed to elevate ppl as a gym owner aren’t u”

“Mate, i’m heavy as f*ck and run around a lot”

“I reckon it’s right”

Me (in reply to the ‘elevate’ message): “False”

“Sooner you hit rock bottom, the better”

Friend: “#mates”

Me: “Got to be cruel to be kind”

So, here’s the first parallel / reference / thought;

I’m not here to be “nice”.

Now, this is obviously an exchange between mates.

And whilst I would say that I do ‘elevate’ people……..

That’s rarely done by telling them what they want to hear.

By definition, when people come to me, what they have heard before hasn’t, on average, got them where they want to go.

Whilst the ‘cruel to be kind’ statement was a joke……..

It’s not all that far from the truth.

It’s probably a daily occurrence that I say something to someone that somewhat annoys them.

Because it’s touched a nerve.

If someone’s looking for someone to just smile and nod……….

To, essentially, just take their money for access to some workouts…….

Then I’m not their man.

For those who want the actual help and support, frustrating as it can be at times, that will lead to the changes that are important to them……..

That’s where I come in! (at www.myrise.co.uk/apply)

Much love,
