If you use social media, you’ll probably have noticed that I have adverts running for RISE pretty much all the time. Have done for a decade. I may increase and decrease the budget at times depending on what’s going on. But, as with any business, customers move on over time. Having new customers to come in to replace them is essential to the business surviving. Our retention is great for the Fitness Industry. But it’s never 100%. Avoid any business that claims that there’s is. They’re either clueless about their business or happy to lie to you. I’ve heard various fitness business owners over the years say that they “don’t advertise”. All their business “comes from word of mouth”. But, from what I can see, they rarely have as much business as they might like. I’ve seen fitness business owners in the area go out of business because they don’t have enough clients whilst being proud of the fact that they don’t advertise and that they get their clients from word of mouth. Pretty stupid badge of honor if you ask me. As some of the other badge of honors we might wear are. “Stupid” is a strong word – let’s substitute for “questionable”. Like saying that we’re out of shape because we’re “too busy”. When there will be hundreds of thousands of people out there who are just as busy as we are and are in the shape that they’d like to be. And there are things we can do to get in better shape that requires zero additional time. And being in better shape generates more energy and better mood to make more effective use of that limited resource of time. Or we’ll talk about healthy food being “more expensive”. When there are plenty of ways to eat healthily at the same or lower cost. Or we’ll mention how busy our social life is. When, even for the most social, eating and drinking out will account for somewhere between a tenth and a third of the times that they consume per week. Like a fitness professional refusing to advertise and going out of business. We could perhaps question some of these thoughts. Because, as always, the same thoughts will lead to the same actions and results. If nothing changes, nothing changes (www.myirse.co.uk/apply, with two extra weeks for free over Christmas, is the change you need, I promise!). Much love, Jon ‘ROH’ Hall
